I'm Luis Ortega, a software developer. I build field inspection software: checklists, findings and evidence captured by people walking a site, usually with no signal, on whatever phone they were handed.
Almost everything I read about building software assumes the opposite conditions — a stable network, a laptop, a user who chose to be there. These notes are what I learn building for the other case: offline sync, conflict resolution, evidence that cannot be lost, and the mistakes that turn out to be expensive.
I write in English because the conversation I want to be part of happens in English. The work happens in Chile.
